When we use Third conditional

Third conditional
We use Third conditional for PAST situations. We say what we woukd do IF WE COULD CHANGE THE PAST (of course we can’t change the past, so it’s hypothetical).

An example of third conditional use in context.

The woman put the photos on the floor and the man fell.

How we form third conditional

If + past perfect, would/could + present perfect. (If + had +past participle, would/could + have + past participle)

Other examples of third conditional use in a sentence

  • She could have had the answer if she had asked.
  • If we hadn’t gone to the cinema, we wouldn’t have seen the film.
